Life a Big Competition?

Today i finally left the hospital with a sense of relief. The last 2 months have been the busiest i have ever lead in my life. Struggled to finish 4 portfolios (and now left 1 ortho portfolio, have to redo gynae wan too...sobz...), juggling kampung angkat stuff, passed up my 4th Buddhist exam assignment, organising stuff for band study committee and finally, having to cover de wards. Very lacking in knowledge cuz so little time to study my books.

I think this was a great chance to build character. Next time when dying as a houseman, must learn to make time to enjoy life too.

I tink life is a lot like a huge competition. Have to compete alot during these 2 postings. Fight for case, fight to get into clinic for good doctor, fight for books, refusing to share knowledge cuz others not as smart as you, fight to scrub in for surgery etc. Next time oso as doctor, have to fight to do procedure, get ur boss's attention so can do specialisation etc. When others shine, u have to shine more or be outshined.

Some ppl say its foolish to compete with others, u only race with ur own self. I tink dat wud be ignorant, cuz u never know where ur standing if u dont compare ur standards with others.

Is it our Malaysian mentality to be the best? Kiasu-ism is okay so long as other ppl are not compromised. But when there's only one chance up for grabs and everyone is fighting for it, do we sacrifice the "sharing" attitude? Survival of the fittest. Dog eat dog world.

Sigh, must always be on my toes. Muz learn to just chill out once in awhile though.

Hmmmm, sure sounds like a lot on your plate at the mo.... =\

A little competition is healthy.... but if it goes out of control, the consequences are nothing short of detrimental.

I personally feel the system will fall apart if such animosity continues among medics/doctors. If we could only banish our "kiasu" mentality, we would have learnt so much from each other - and grow along the way. =)

Take care, batchrep! Just try to chill out every now and then!!!!

haha..i like that kind of life, but i have been slacking alot;p

you will become a very good doctor, for sure. Competition is healthy but like what yuen said, if we can share our knowledge, wa can actually learn verry much fromn each other. At least the british does that.

Don't work too hard k? try to relax...:) be happy

If u had been doing the A&E on- calls in HTJS, then u would not be fighting like crazy. A&E allows direct admission to OT for surgery & i always follow & scrub too. Plus all the procedures...

Why so kiasu then? It's just people are not using the right facilities at the right time. I enjoyed my time.

Enjoy life bro! LOL!
